The airport of El Salvador, whose full name is Airport International of El Salvador Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero and Galdamez, is the place where the airliners will reach our country. The airport was built in the mid-1970s, to replace the airport of Ilopango, which then it would become a military airport.
The airport of El Salvador is located in the municipality of San Luis Talpa, in the Department of La Paz, about 40 kilometers from the capital city, San Salvador. It occupies a plain of some 1,465 acres farm apples in triangular shape. The main runway of the airport is 3.2 km long and 60 meters wide.
The facilities are divided into two sectors: building Terminal cargo and passenger Terminal building, where it is estimated that about two million passengers pass annually.
Shops where you can buy handicrafts, food, clothes, among others and obtain services such as car rental, information and reservations of hotels where to stay, financial operations of some national banks and using ATMs can also be found within their facilities.
It was formerly known under the name of El Salvador airport or airport of Comalapa. but on March 24, 2014 was held the name change to international airport of El Salvador “Monsignor Oscar Arnulfo Romero and Galdámez”, a way to commemorate the 34 anniversary of the death of the Salvadoran martyr.
