Paraiso Artesanal Route

Route artisan paradise is an interesting tour which includes 100 km approximately from the capital city to the highest point of El Salvador (cerro el Pital 2730 M. A.S.L.) in which you can visit an archaeological site, peoples craft, steeped in history, as well as excellent places to practice ecotourism and agro-tourism.

Paraiso Artesanal route, El Salvador

San Salvador, leaving the trunk road from the North, heading towards the North of the Salvadoran territory, passing by the famous town of Aguilares, find one of the most important archaeological sites of the country: Cihuatán, which still does not reach its total excavation.

Cihuatán

This archaeological site, is still within the Department of San Salvador, located northeast of the town of Aguilares, on the banks of the Acelhuate River. This site was explored by the Salvadoran archaeologists Jorge Lardé y Antonio Sol in the years of 1927 and 1929.

Cihuatán in Nahuatl language means “City of women” reaches an area of 5 km and was an indigenous ceremonial center. Among its major buildings are the church square of 12 meters of height. It has several playgrounds of ball of which one is quite well preserved, after its restoration of 4 to 5 meters to the base made completely of stone walls are distinguished.

Colima

Continuing on carretera Troncal del Norte, 5 minutes from the archaeological site of Cihuatán, it reaches the drain of the Acelhuate River in the Lempa River, as we also noticed the widening of the Lempa River begins where the water reservoir for the Cerron Grande dam. La Palma

Municipality of the District of Tejutla, is limited by San Ignacio and Citalá, located in the Department of Chalatenango, border with Honduras, San Salvador taken approximately 2 hours to reach the town of La Palma. Their festivities are held in honor of the Virgin Mary from 13 to 21 February.

This picturesque village located in the mountains of the North of the country, is located at an elevation of 995 M. above sea level and became famous during the time of the war by an area taken by the guerrillas. Also acquired its fame thanks to the ingenuity of Mr. Fernando Llort, who taught villagers to produce handicraft materials painted, engraved, carved and molded in wood, leather and clay for marketing in the rest of the country and outside the country. Also in this municipality is extracted the tar, which obtained by distillation of some woods such as pine.

La Palma is a nice place to visit due to its cool climate and beautiful landscapes, has a wide variety of places to enjoy a super power, as well as hosting sites to spend the night. San Ignacio

Is very close to the neighboring town of La Palma, San Ignacio offers a cool weather because is located at 1010 M. above sea level. Their festivities held from 23 to 31 July in honor to San Ignacio de Loyola. Its main industries are the coffee, fruit, cerealista, dairy products and exploitation of forest products. There are also a variety of small businesses and shops make them with neighbouring populations cite it and La Palma.

This small village also has craft workshops where working wood, typical eating places as well as hotels.

Miramundo

Climbing the mountains of the North arrived at cerro Miramundo which is very visited by its cool climate and pleasant landscapes. Church of El Pilar
