The Sumpul river is one of the natural blessings for the towns of La Palma, San Fernando, Dulce Nombre de Maria, La Laguna, El Carrizal, Ojos de Agua, new Trinidad and Las Flores, in the Department of Chalatenango.
In the winter is a tireless provider of water for daily consumption, also favors the fishing and feeds the plantations of vegetables and corn of the neighboring communities. Born in the area of the upper basin of the Lempa River, in Canton El Encanto, San Ignacio, and flows into the dam “November 5th”. You receive the influx of six rivers and four streams and its length is 77 km.
This tributary in winter reaches up to 75 meters deep in some areas.
Others of the virtues of the Sumpul river is allowing locals to enjoy waters. Holiday season is very visited by tourists from all over El Salvador.
