Izote flower is the national flower of El Salvador, which is also considered as one of the national symbols of El Salvador. A curious fact is that this flower is edible; Some people tend to eat it with egg or in soups, also forming part of the Salvadoran cuisine.
The flower of izote grows a shrub that blooms mostly between the months of March and April; It is common to observe that it is sold in markets or supermarkets in the country. In other parts of america, this flower is known as flor de itabo; which is also a rich source of vitamin C.
Because of its beauty and be considered as the representative of the country’s flora, the flower of izote was named as the national flower of El Salvador, in December 1995.
