This day is commemorated Ash Wednesday, a Catholic celebration that starts lent, which is forty days before the start of Holy week. Although that is always celebrated on Wednesday is not exactly the same date every year, it is always between February 4 and March 10.
The Holy ash is ash resulting from incinerated the ramos blessed in the previous year’s Palm Sunday. For Catholics this day is regarded as a day of fasting and reflection on our life to prepare for Holy week.
Ash in El Salvador Wednesday to perform a mass it is customary, in some places is a small procession which starts from the outside of the temple, then the priest blesses the ash with which then draws a cross of ash on the forehead of the faithful. When you draw that cross is common to hear the expression by the priest: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return”. It certainly reminds us that we are passing in this life and that we should show love to others and to God.
