CANADIANS! – We just went through this, to get a DUI for our adult Son. He was born in Canada, his Mother was born in Canada, his Father is Salvadoran. Here were the steps:
Obtain a Salvadoran Birth Certificate and DUI, in Canada, for an adult child, who has one Salvadoran Parent, who is a Canadian Citizen and has a DUI. In our case, the other Parent was born in Canada and is a Canadian Citizen. If your situation differs, check with the Consulate.
Step #1 – Make a Consular Appointment. This may be done either online, via portalcitas.rree.gob.sv . You will need to create an account, to use the site. Bring, to the Appointment, Canadian Long-Form Birth Certificate of the Applicant and the non-Salvadoran Parent, Canadian Passports of Both Parents and the Applicant, the DUI of the Salvadoran Parent and USD$5 in Cash. The $5 is a Penalty imposed for not registering the Birth within 6 months. The other Payment of USD$10 may be made in Cash, or by Visa, or Mastercard. This is the Consular Fee, for them processing the Birth Certificate request.
Step #2 – Since it takes a minimum of 24 hours, for the Salvadoran Government to complete the registration, wait a couple of days and then try to download the Birth Certificate from simple.sv . An account must be created using the DUI of the Salvadoran Parent. Be prepared to pay USD$35 online, using Visa, or Mastercard, to get the Salvadoran Birth Certificate. Print and Save the document.
Step #3 – Make a second appointment, to get a DUI, at the Consulate. Bring the Applicant’s Salvadoran Birth Certificate and Canadian Passport to the appointment. The Applicant must come in person, presumably because there will be a photo taken, for use on the Documento Único de Identidad [DUI]. Be prepared to pay again, USD$35, in cash, or by Visa, or Mastercard.
Total Cost in USD: $5 + $10 + $35 + $35 = USD$85.00
My Husband’s DUI, which he got in El Salvador is valid for 8 years.
We have an appointment, this week, to get our Son’s Hopefully it will have the same validity.
Good luck. Much of their technology does not work. The people at the Toronto Consulate are wonderful! There are Consular services available in Ottawa and, I believe, in Montreal too.
